On January 27-28, 2012 Mike Sylvester of North Little Rock, Arkansas will be competing in the NTRA National Handicapping Championship. This contest is the culmination of a year-long series of NTRA-sanctioned local tournaments held at horse racing events and handicapping websites. The top qualifiers from each tournament are sent to the national finals. The 2012 NHC has an estimated purse of $2 million.

The contest will begin on Friday January 27, at 9:00am Las Vegas time.  It concludes on Saturday at 8:00pm with the awards banquet and presentation of the checks. More than 4,500 people signed up for the 2011 NHC Tour and participated in these local tournaments..  Only 482 will be competing for the $1,600,000 in prize money and only 2 from Arkansas made it to the championship tournament.

Players attempt to earn the highest possible bankroll based on 15 mythical $2 win-and-place wagers on each day of the two-day tournament. Eight of those wagers will be on mandatory races selected previously. The remaining seven races each day are optional plays to be made on races at one of seven designated NHC tournament tracks: Aqueduct, Fair Grounds, Golden Gate Fields, Gulfstream Park, Oaklawn Park, Santa Anita Park and Tampa Bay Downs.

I'll be updating this site with information, pictures, Mike's picks and status during the tournament.
